  38. Limitations of Supported File Formats
  39. ====================================================================
  40.  
  41. CAL -- CALS Raster
  42. HiJaak Express supports version 1 MIL-D-28003 and 
  43. MIL-D-28003A.
  44.  
  45. CGM -- Computer Graphics Metafile
  46. HiJaak Express supports all but the CellArray features of CGM ANSI
  47. standard version 1 in ASCII or binary encoding. Therefore, HiJaak 
  48. Express also cannot display bitmaps in CGM files. HiJaak does not 
  49. read floating-point CGM. 
  50.  
  51. CLP -- Windows Clipboard 
  52. Does not support CLP as a destination. 
  53. Because of the variety of information that the Windows Clipboard 
  54. can contain, it does not support all CLP files correctly. 
  55. Note that CLP files created on one system (computer, graphics cards
  56. and other hardware) may not convert properly on another system. 
  57. This problem is called "system dependence."
  58. Bitmap DDB files are also system dependent and therefore could also
  59. cause problems.
  60.  
  61. CMX-Corel Metafile Exchange
  62. Supports CMX version 1.0.
  63.  
  64. CPR-Knowledge Access
  65. HiJaak Express supports CPR as a source only; it cannot write or 
  66. convert to the CPR format.
  67.  
  68. CUT -- Dr. Halo CUT
  69. If HiJaak Express cannot find a palette file for the selected CUT 
  70. file, the colors in the file will be unpredictable because the 
  71. image depths and color assignments are unknown.
  72.  
  73. ED5 -- EDMICS
  74. HiJaak Express supports ED5 as a source only; it cannot write or 
  75. convert to the ED5 format.
  76.  
  77. ED6 -- EDMICS
  78. HiJaak supports ED6 as a source only; it cannot write or convert 
  79. to the ED6 format.

  81. EMF -- Enhanced Metafile Format
  82. There are limitations of HiJaak Express's raster support in EMF 
  83. files; it cannot grayscale, change colors, or reduce colors in
  84. EMF files. 
  85.  
  86. EPS -- Encapsulated PostScript
  87. Does not support advanced features of AI files create on Macintosh
  88. versions of Adobe Illustrator 5.5 and 6.
  89. Cannot read all EPS files exported by Corel Draw 8.
  90. Cannot read JPEG-encoded EPS files.
  91. Conversion Information
  92. ╖ Save As: Before you save a PostScript file you opened in HiJaak 
  93. Express, check the file extension in the title bar of the image.
  94. If the extension is HDR, do not overwrite your original EPS file
  95. by saving the HDR file to the same name and location as the
  96. original. The HDR file contains only the header information that
  97. was available in your original EPS file, not the PostScript 
  98. instructions.
  99. ╖ Adobe Photoshop Flavor: When you are converting files to be
  100. used in Adobe Photoshop, make sure you select Options in the
  101. Save As dialog box, and then select the Adobe Photoshop flavor 
  102. in the AI Processing Options dialog box.
  103. Metafile to EPS Conversions: HiJaak Express does not support
  104. metafile to EPS conversions. You can convert either raster or 
  105. vector images to EPS; and you can open metafile EPS files;
  106. but you cannot create a metafile EPS image. If you need to 
  107. convert a metafile image to EPS, first save it to a raster
  108. or vector format, then convert the raster or vector image to EPS
  109. format.
  110. Raster EPS to 3D or Metafile Conversions: HiJaak Express does not
  111. support converting raster metafiles to other metafile formats or 
  112. 3D formats. If you attempt to do convert a raster EPS to a metafile
  113. or 3D format, HiJaak Express will display "Error 1051: No graphical
  114. information found" message.
  115.  
  116. GEM-GEM Metafile
  117. Does not support raster information in GEM files
  118. Conversion Information
  119. GEM uses a fixed color palette, so conversions from formats without
  120. the same palette limitation may produce undesired color changes in
  121. GEM. To remedy this problem, use HiJaak Express' Change A Color
  122. option under the Colors menu to remap colors in the source image to
  123. the desired colors in the fixed GEM palette. If you convert a raster
  124. or a metafile with raster information in it to GEM, the raster 
  125. information will be discarded.
  126.  
  127. GIF -- CompuServe
  128. Does not support animated or multi-page GIF files. You may open a 
  129. multi-page GIF file in HiJaak Express, but only the first page will
  130. display.
  131. Does not support comments or text in 89a GIF files
  132. Does not automatically save transparency information in your GIF 
  133. file.
  134. If you open a GIF file containing a black or white transparency, 
  135. then save it with HiJaak Express, you need to select the 
  136. Transparency option in the Save As Options dialog box to retain the
  137. information.
  138.  
  139. IFF -- Amiga ILBM
  140. HiJaak Express supports only the raster graphics portion of IFF.
  141.  
  142. IMG -- GEM Paint
  143. Cannot read 8-bit IMG files.
  144. Cannot read IMG files created by Corel PhotoPaint 6.0.
  145.  
  146. JPG -- JPEG
  147. Supports Progressive JPEG.
  148. Cannot read JPEG files created by Image Alchemy or CMYK JPEG files.
  149.  
  150. NIFF -- Navy Image File Format
  151. HiJaak Express supports NIFF as source only, with or without an 
  152. 1840 type header.
  153.  
  154. P10 -- Tektronix Plot 10
  155. HiJaak Express reads 4010 and 4014 Plot 10 files.
  156.  
  157. PCD -- Kodak Photo CD
  158. HiJaak Express does not support encrypted or watermarked PCD files.
  159. HiJaak supports PCD as a source only; it cannot write or convert to
  160. the PCD format.
  161.  
  162. PCL -- HP LaserJet II Printer Control Language
  163. Supports all raster information, soft fonts, macros and lines, and 
  164. compression in PCL files.
  165. Imports only PCL4 and handles it as raster. This means that all text
  166. in the PCL file will be rasterized and will not be editable.
  167. Supports only letter-sized PCL files (8.5"x11").
  168.  
  169. PCT1 -- Macintosh PICT
  170. HiJaak Express supports PCT1 as a source only; it cannot write or 
  171. convert to the PCT1 format.
  172.  
  173. PCT2 -- Macintosh PICT
  174. Cannot create metafile PCT images. 
  175. HiJaak Express can read PCT version 1 files, but it writes out only
  176. PCT version 2 files.
  177. If you open a PCT1 file and save it, HiJaak Express will save it as
  178. a PCT2 file. 
  179. If you are converting a metafile containing both raster and vector 
  180. information to PCT, HiJaak Express will create an incomplete image 
  181. because it does not fully support metafile to PCT conversions. Only
  182. the vector information within the file will be converted, the 
  183. raster information will be discarded. You can convert either raster
  184. or vector images to PCT; and you can open metafile PCT files; but 
  185. you cannot create a metafile PCT image. If you need to convert a 
  186. metafile image to PCT, first try the conversion. If the metafile 
  187. contains only raster or only vector information, the conversion 
  188. will complete successfully. If the metafile contains both raster
  189. and vector information, you will need to first save it to a raster
  190. or vector format, then convert the raster or vector image to PCT 
  191. format.
  192.  
  193. PCX -- PC Paintbrush
  194. Supports all versions of PCX as source and PCX version 5 as a 
  195. destination.
  196.  
  197. PNG -- Portable Network Graphics
  198. Supports PNG as a source only.
  199.  
  200. PSD -- Photoshop
  201. Does not support PSD files using the multi-channel or LAB color 
  202. models. Does not preserve layer information when you open then save
  203. a PSD file from Photoshop.
  204.  
  205. SBP -- IBM Storyboard PIC
  206. Supports SBP as a source only; it cannot write or convert to the 
  207. SBP format.
  208.  
  209. SGI - Silicon Graphics RGB
  210. Only writes uncompressed SGI files. 
  211.  
  212. TGA -- Truevision
  213. Does not support TGA's alpha channel, and cannot write color-mapped
  214. files.
  215.  
  216. TIF-- TIFF
  217. Supports TIF as both source and destination.
  218. Supports all classes of TIF and the compression Types 1-5 and 32773
  219. outlined above. In addition, HiJaak Express supports the 
  220. proprietary compression types 32809 ThunderScan and 32771 
  221. Uncompressed-Word-Aligned. Provides a custom TIF flavor generator, 
  222. from which you can define flavors of TIF based on your existing 
  223. files. For example, suppose you have an obscure application that
  224. produces TIF files, but you don't know what flavor of TIF it uses.
  225. You can use HiJaak Express to scan the application's TIF file and 
  226. create a new flavor from it. You can then select that flavor when 
  227. you convert files to TIF, so you know they will be compatible with
  228. your application. However, do not use the Custom TIFF feature 
  229. unless you have tried some of HiJaak Express' standard TIFF flavors
  230. with no success. On rare occasions, may create a TIF flavor that 
  231. produces TIF flavors that are unreadable by either HiJaak Express 
  232. or your intended application. 
  233. Does not support multiple image TIF files. You may open a multiple
  234. image TIF file in HiJaak Express, but only the first image will 
  235. display. 
  236. Does not support 16-gray TIF files.
  237. Does not support Type 6 JPEG files. 
  238.  
  239. TXT -- ASCII Text
  240. HiJaak can read only first page (60 first lines) from TXT source
  241. file.
  242. Conversion from TXT to CGM, requires that the Stroke Fonts option 
  243. in the CGM Processing Options dialog box be cleared. Otherwise, 
  244. HiJaak Express creates a blank or zero-length file from your 
  245. conversion. 
  246. Converting a file that does not contain any text to TXT creates a 
  247. blank image, because the TXT format only supports text objects. 
  248. After editing a TXT file and saving it in HiJaak Express, you will 
  249. not be able to open it in a text editor. After you edit a TXT file
  250. by rotating, flipping, cropping or in other ways, HiJaak Express 
  251. strokes the fonts. That is, the text becomes rasterized lines and
  252. circles, rather than ASCII encoded letters. Therefore, your text 
  253. editors will not be able to read the files any longer. We recommend
  254. that you never edit important text files using HiJaak Express' Edit
  255. or Colors menus.

  258. WMF -- Windows Metafile
  259. HiJaak Express cannot rotate or crop WMF files containing raster 
  260. information.
  261. Converting a WMF image containing raster information to CGM will 
  262. result in a blank CGM image or one with missing parts because 
  263. HiJaak discards the raster information, since it does not support 
  264. raster information in CGM files. 
  265.  
  266. WPG -- WordPerfect Graphic
  267. Metafile to WPG conversions result in a blank file because HiJaak
  268. does not support them.
