SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
====================================================================
IBM Compatible 486-66 or higher (Pentium recommended)
8MB RAM (32MB recommended)
17 MB of hard disk space.
CD Rom drive (2X or higher)
Mouse or tablet
Color Monitor, VGA recommended.
800X600 256 COLORS
Window 95 or Windows NT 4.0 or higher
====================================================================
Crop, Resize, Rotate of Metafiles with Bitmaps
====================================================================
Cannot crop, resize, rotate metafiles if they contain a bitmap.
====================================================================
Limitations of Supported File Formats
====================================================================
CAL -- CALS Raster
HiJaak Express supports version 1 MIL-D-28003 and
MIL-D-28003A.
CGM -- Computer Graphics Metafile
HiJaak Express supports all but the CellArray features of CGM ANSI
standard version 1 in ASCII or binary encoding. Therefore, HiJaak
Express also cannot display bitmaps in CGM files. HiJaak does not
read floating-point CGM.
CLP -- Windows Clipboard
Does not support CLP as a destination.
Because of the variety of information that the Windows Clipboard
can contain, it does not support all CLP files correctly.
Note that CLP files created on one system (computer, graphics cards
and other hardware) may not convert properly on another system.
This problem is called "system dependence."
Bitmap DDB files are also system dependent and therefore could also
cause problems.
CMX-Corel Metafile Exchange
Supports CMX version 1.0.
CPR-Knowledge Access
HiJaak Express supports CPR as a source only; it cannot write or
convert to the CPR format.
CUT -- Dr. Halo CUT
If HiJaak Express cannot find a palette file for the selected CUT
file, the colors in the file will be unpredictable because the
image depths and color assignments are unknown.
ED5 -- EDMICS
HiJaak Express supports ED5 as a source only; it cannot write or
convert to the ED5 format.
ED6 -- EDMICS
HiJaak supports ED6 as a source only; it cannot write or convert
to the ED6 format.
EMF -- Enhanced Metafile Format
There are limitations of HiJaak Express's raster support in EMF
files; it cannot grayscale, change colors, or reduce colors in
EMF files.
EPS -- Encapsulated PostScript
Does not support advanced features of AI files create on Macintosh
versions of Adobe Illustrator 5.5 and 6.
Cannot read all EPS files exported by Corel Draw 8.
Cannot read JPEG-encoded EPS files.
Conversion Information
╖ Save As: Before you save a PostScript file you opened in HiJaak
Express, check the file extension in the title bar of the image.
If the extension is HDR, do not overwrite your original EPS file
by saving the HDR file to the same name and location as the
original. The HDR file contains only the header information that
was available in your original EPS file, not the PostScript
instructions.
╖ Adobe Photoshop Flavor: When you are converting files to be
used in Adobe Photoshop, make sure you select Options in the
Save As dialog box, and then select the Adobe Photoshop flavor
in the AI Processing Options dialog box.
Metafile to EPS Conversions: HiJaak Express does not support
metafile to EPS conversions. You can convert either raster or
vector images to EPS; and you can open metafile EPS files;
but you cannot create a metafile EPS image. If you need to
convert a metafile image to EPS, first save it to a raster
or vector format, then convert the raster or vector image to EPS
format.
Raster EPS to 3D or Metafile Conversions: HiJaak Express does not
support converting raster metafiles to other metafile formats or
3D formats. If you attempt to do convert a raster EPS to a metafile
or 3D format, HiJaak Express will display "Error 1051: No graphical
information found" message.
GEM-GEM Metafile
Does not support raster information in GEM files
Conversion Information
GEM uses a fixed color palette, so conversions from formats without
the same palette limitation may produce undesired color changes in
GEM. To remedy this problem, use HiJaak Express' Change A Color
option under the Colors menu to remap colors in the source image to
the desired colors in the fixed GEM palette. If you convert a raster
or a metafile with raster information in it to GEM, the raster
information will be discarded.
GIF -- CompuServe
Does not support animated or multi-page GIF files. You may open a
multi-page GIF file in HiJaak Express, but only the first page will
display.
Does not support comments or text in 89a GIF files
Does not automatically save transparency information in your GIF
file.
If you open a GIF file containing a black or white transparency,
then save it with HiJaak Express, you need to select the
Transparency option in the Save As Options dialog box to retain the
information.
IFF -- Amiga ILBM
HiJaak Express supports only the raster graphics portion of IFF.
IMG -- GEM Paint
Cannot read 8-bit IMG files.
Cannot read IMG files created by Corel PhotoPaint 6.0.
JPG -- JPEG
Supports Progressive JPEG.
Cannot read JPEG files created by Image Alchemy or CMYK JPEG files.
NIFF -- Navy Image File Format
HiJaak Express supports NIFF as source only, with or without an
1840 type header.
P10 -- Tektronix Plot 10
HiJaak Express reads 4010 and 4014 Plot 10 files.
PCD -- Kodak Photo CD
HiJaak Express does not support encrypted or watermarked PCD files.
HiJaak supports PCD as a source only; it cannot write or convert to
the PCD format.
PCL -- HP LaserJet II Printer Control Language
Supports all raster information, soft fonts, macros and lines, and
compression in PCL files.
Imports only PCL4 and handles it as raster. This means that all text
in the PCL file will be rasterized and will not be editable.
Supports only letter-sized PCL files (8.5"x11").
PCT1 -- Macintosh PICT
HiJaak Express supports PCT1 as a source only; it cannot write or
convert to the PCT1 format.
PCT2 -- Macintosh PICT
Cannot create metafile PCT images.
HiJaak Express can read PCT version 1 files, but it writes out only
PCT version 2 files.
If you open a PCT1 file and save it, HiJaak Express will save it as
a PCT2 file.
If you are converting a metafile containing both raster and vector
information to PCT, HiJaak Express will create an incomplete image
because it does not fully support metafile to PCT conversions. Only
the vector information within the file will be converted, the
raster information will be discarded. You can convert either raster
or vector images to PCT; and you can open metafile PCT files; but
you cannot create a metafile PCT image. If you need to convert a
metafile image to PCT, first try the conversion. If the metafile
contains only raster or only vector information, the conversion
will complete successfully. If the metafile contains both raster
and vector information, you will need to first save it to a raster
or vector format, then convert the raster or vector image to PCT
format.
PCX -- PC Paintbrush
Supports all versions of PCX as source and PCX version 5 as a
destination.
PNG -- Portable Network Graphics
Supports PNG as a source only.
PSD -- Photoshop
Does not support PSD files using the multi-channel or LAB color
models. Does not preserve layer information when you open then save
a PSD file from Photoshop.
SBP -- IBM Storyboard PIC
Supports SBP as a source only; it cannot write or convert to the
SBP format.
SGI - Silicon Graphics RGB
Only writes uncompressed SGI files.
TGA -- Truevision
Does not support TGA's alpha channel, and cannot write color-mapped
files.
TIF-- TIFF
Supports TIF as both source and destination.
Supports all classes of TIF and the compression Types 1-5 and 32773
outlined above. In addition, HiJaak Express supports the
proprietary compression types 32809 ThunderScan and 32771
Uncompressed-Word-Aligned. Provides a custom TIF flavor generator,
from which you can define flavors of TIF based on your existing
files. For example, suppose you have an obscure application that
produces TIF files, but you don't know what flavor of TIF it uses.
You can use HiJaak Express to scan the application's TIF file and
create a new flavor from it. You can then select that flavor when
you convert files to TIF, so you know they will be compatible with
your application. However, do not use the Custom TIFF feature
unless you have tried some of HiJaak Express' standard TIFF flavors
with no success. On rare occasions, may create a TIF flavor that
produces TIF flavors that are unreadable by either HiJaak Express
or your intended application.
Does not support multiple image TIF files. You may open a multiple
image TIF file in HiJaak Express, but only the first image will
display.
Does not support 16-gray TIF files.
Does not support Type 6 JPEG files.
TXT -- ASCII Text
HiJaak can read only first page (60 first lines) from TXT source
file.
Conversion from TXT to CGM, requires that the Stroke Fonts option
in the CGM Processing Options dialog box be cleared. Otherwise,
HiJaak Express creates a blank or zero-length file from your
conversion.
Converting a file that does not contain any text to TXT creates a
blank image, because the TXT format only supports text objects.
After editing a TXT file and saving it in HiJaak Express, you will
not be able to open it in a text editor. After you edit a TXT file
by rotating, flipping, cropping or in other ways, HiJaak Express
strokes the fonts. That is, the text becomes rasterized lines and
circles, rather than ASCII encoded letters. Therefore, your text
editors will not be able to read the files any longer. We recommend
that you never edit important text files using HiJaak Express' Edit
or Colors menus.
WMF -- Windows Metafile
HiJaak Express cannot rotate or crop WMF files containing raster
information.
Converting a WMF image containing raster information to CGM will
result in a blank CGM image or one with missing parts because
HiJaak discards the raster information, since it does not support
raster information in CGM files.
WPG -- WordPerfect Graphic
Metafile to WPG conversions result in a blank file because HiJaak
does not support them.
